Medicare in The Woodlands
What The Woodlands residents should know
The Woodlands is a planned community of eight villages, mostly in Montgomery County. The Creekside Park village is in Harris County. About one in seven residents was 65 or older in the 2020 census. Because Medicare Advantage plans are approved by county, a Creekside Park address can see a different plan list than a home in Alden Bridge or Grogan's Mill.
Hospital choice here is wide. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center on Pinecroft Dr. is a Level II trauma center. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital opened on I-45 in 2017. St. Luke's Hospital - The Woodlands opened in 2003 on St. Luke's Way, with its Lakeside hospital next door. MD Anderson The Woodlands on Fellowship Dr. treats cancer close to home, so you may not need the trip down I-45 for every visit.
With that many options, list every doctor and hospital you use before comparing. An Advantage HMO usually keeps you inside one network, except for emergencies. If MD Anderson is part of your care, check it by name, since not every plan includes it. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider who accepts Medicare, for a higher monthly premium plus a separate Part D plan.
Getting around without a car takes a call ahead. Interfaith of The Woodlands runs volunteer door-to-door rides for enrolled residents 62 and older at 281-367-1230. Meals on Wheels Montgomery County offers Senior Rides at 936-756-5855 and delivers meals to homebound seniors. The George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library on Ashlane Way has free computers for Medicare.gov and Social Security tasks.
Want your current plan checked against next year's networks? Call us. We look at your doctors, drugs and budget for your Montgomery or Harris County address and walk through the plans we offer. For free counseling from someone who does not sell plans, call Texas HICAP at 1-800-252-9240.
Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.
