Medicare in Spring
What Spring residents should know
Spring is unincorporated, and the name covers far more than the original town. Old Town Spring sits at Spring-Cypress and Hardy roads, but Spring mailing addresses spread across north Harris County and into southern Montgomery County. Most of it is Harris County. If your Spring address is in Montgomery County, your Medicare Advantage choices follow Montgomery County instead.
Hospitals ring the area. HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, on Cypress Creek Parkway, is a Level II trauma center and an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. St. Luke's Hospital - Springwoods Village opened in 2016 with an emergency room and outpatient surgery. To the north, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and Houston Methodist The Woodlands are a short trip up I-45.
Because Spring residents often use hospitals in both Harris and Montgomery counties, check every doctor and hospital by name before you choose an Advantage plan. Networks can change each January, so last year's directory is not enough. A Medicare Supplement skips the network step. Plan G or Plan N works with any provider who accepts Medicare, and you add a Part D plan for drugs.
Harris County runs two community centers on the Spring side. The George H.W. Bush Community Center on Cypresswood Dr. and the Cactus Jack Cagle Community Center on Riley Fuzzel Road both open weekdays. The Barbara Bush Branch Library, also on Cypresswood, has free computers for Medicare.gov. Harris County RIDES helps residents 65 and older who cannot use METRO, at 713-368-7433.
Call us with your address and your doctor list. We confirm your county, check which plans we offer there, and show what each one would cost you for the year. If you want free counseling from someone who does not sell plans, call Texas HICAP at 1-800-252-9240.
Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.
