Medicare in Katy

What Katy residents should know

The City of Katy sits where Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties meet. We list Katy under Harris County on this site, but plenty of Katy addresses fall in Fort Bend County, and some in Waller. Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county. Two neighbors on the same street can see different plan lists if a county line runs between them, so start with your exact address.

Two large hospitals sit along I-10. Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, at 23900 Katy Freeway, runs a 24/7 emergency room and is a Level III trauma center. Houston Methodist West Hospital, at 18500 Katy Freeway, opened in December 2010 and earned Magnet recognition for nursing. Many Katy residents also travel into the Texas Medical Center for specialists. If your doctors split between Memorial Hermann and Houston Methodist, check each one by name in any Advantage plan you consider.

A Medicare Supplement takes the network question off the table. Plan G or Plan N works with any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, which helps if your cardiologist is downtown and your family doctor is in Cinco Ranch. You pay a higher monthly premium for that freedom, and you add a separate Part D plan for drugs. We price both paths side by side so you can see the yearly cost.

For rides, Harris County RIDES helps residents 65 and older who cannot use METRO. Fort Bend County runs its own demand-response service for trips inside that county. METRO Park & Ride buses leave from lots along I-10, and riders 70 and older ride free with a RideMETRO Discount Fare Card. The city's Fussell Senior Citizen Center on East Fifth Street hosts classes, games and outings on weekdays.

Call us and tell us your ZIP code, your doctors and your prescriptions. We check which plans we offer for your side of the county line and walk through them with you. If you would rather talk to a counselor who does not sell plans, Texas HICAP is free at 1-800-252-9240.

Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.

It depends on your address. The city spans Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties, and Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county. Give us your full address and we check the plans for your county.
Are Memorial Hermann Katy and Houston Methodist West in the same plans?
Not always. Each Advantage plan builds its own network, and the lists can change each January. Search both hospitals by name in next year's directory before you enroll.
I live in the Fort Bend part of Katy. Can I use Fort Bend County rides?
Fort Bend County Public Transportation offers demand-response rides within Fort Bend County. Call 866-751-8747 to ask whether your address and destination qualify.
