Medicare in Cypress
What Cypress residents should know
Cypress is an unincorporated community in northwest Harris County, so county services fill the role a city would. Hospital care has grown along US 290. HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, once called North Cypress Medical Center, is on the Northwest Freeway with a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, farther west, is a Level III trauma center. Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital opened in March 2025 between Barker-Cypress and Skinner roads.
A new hospital means new contracts. If you chose a plan before Houston Methodist Cypress opened, check whether it is in network now and whether your doctors moved there. With three systems close together, an Advantage HMO will rarely include all of them. Pick the emergency room you would want first, then confirm your doctors by name in next year's directory.
Many Cypress residents reach 65 while still working. If you or your spouse has group coverage from a current job at an employer with 20 or more workers, you can usually delay Part B without a penalty. When that coverage ends, you get an eight-month window to sign up. Your six-month Medigap open enrollment starts when Part B begins, so time it with care.
Harris County RIDES helps residents 65 and older who cannot use METRO, with registration at 713-368-7433. Juergen's Hall Community Center on Hempstead Road is a Harris County Precinct 3 center with weekday activities. The Lone Star College-CyFair Library on Barker Cypress Road and the Northwest Branch Library on Regency Green Dr. both have free computers for Medicare.gov tasks.
Call us when you are getting close to 65 or when your plan's network changes. We compare your doctors and drugs against the plans we offer in Harris County and lay out the costs. For free, unbiased counseling, Texas HICAP is at 1-800-252-9240.
