Medicare in Pearland

What Pearland residents should know

Pearland grew fast after 2000, and the city now reaches across three counties. Most homes are in Brazoria County. The northern edge, including ZIP 77089, is in Harris County, and a strip on the west side is in Fort Bend. That matters for Medicare, because Advantage plans are approved by county. A plan your friend in Shadow Creek Ranch uses may not be sold at your address on the other side of town.

Two hospitals sit inside the city. HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland, on Shadow Creek Parkway, was called Pearland Medical Center until 2019. It is a Level IV trauma center with an accredited chest pain center and a certified stroke center. Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital sits on the South Freeway (Highway 288). For larger cases, many residents go north to Memorial Hermann Southeast on Astoria Boulevard or into the Texas Medical Center.

Since the two Pearland hospitals belong to different systems, check both before you pick an Advantage HMO. If you see specialists in the Medical Center, add them to the list too. A Medicare Supplement avoids the network check, since Plan G or Plan N works with any provider who accepts Medicare. It costs more each month, so we compare total yearly cost for both options.

The city's Melvin Knapp Activity Center on South Park Avenue runs fitness, games and art classes, with sessions aimed at older adults. Call 281-652-1890 for the current schedule. The Tom Reid Library on Liberty Dr. is part of the Brazoria County Library System, and the West Pearland Library is on Shadow Creek Parkway. Brazoria County residents can reach the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging at 281-633-0519.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Pearland

Is HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland the same as Pearland Medical Center?
Yes. Pearland Medical Center took the HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland name in 2019. If older paperwork uses the former name, it means the same hospital on Shadow Creek Parkway.
Why do my Pearland neighbors have different plan choices?
Pearland spans Brazoria, Harris and Fort Bend counties, and Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county. Your plan list depends on which county your home is in, not the city name on your mail.
Can I keep a Texas Medical Center specialist with a Pearland plan?
With a Medicare Supplement, yes, if the specialist accepts Medicare. With an Advantage plan, it depends on that plan's network. Search the specialist by name before you enroll.
