Medicare in Pasadena

What Pasadena residents should know

Pasadena's main hospital is HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast on Spencer Highway. Longtime residents may still call it Bayshore Medical Center. It has about 350 beds, a Level III trauma center, an accredited chest pain center and stroke certification. Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital is to the southwest on Astoria Boulevard. Harris Health runs the Strawberry Health Center in Pasadena, and Ben Taub in the Texas Medical Center is the nearest public hospital.

If money is tight, ask about cost help before you pick a plan. Extra Help lowers Part D premiums and drug copays for people with limited income and savings. Medicare Savings Programs can pay your Part B premium. Some residents qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, which opens up special plans built for that group. We check what you may qualify for, then compare plans around it.

Network still matters here. If your doctors are with HCA Houston Healthcare, Memorial Hermann or Harris Health, look each one up by name in any Advantage plan you consider. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider who accepts Medicare, but its monthly premium can be harder to fit in a fixed budget. We show the yearly cost both ways.

Pasadena runs its own Madison Jobe Senior Center on Thomas Avenue, at 713-848-5347. The city also takes part in the RIDES program, offering subsidized rides to residents 65 and older with low to moderate incomes who have no way to get around by car. The Pasadena Public Library has a main branch on Jeff Ginn Memorial Dr. and the Fairmont branch on Fairmont Parkway. The Harris County Area Agency on Aging offers benefits counseling at 832-393-4301.

Call us with your doctors, prescriptions and monthly budget. We check for cost help first and then walk through the plans we offer in Harris County. Texas HICAP also gives free, unbiased counseling at 1-800-252-9240.

Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Pasadena

Is HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast the old Bayshore hospital?
Yes. Bayshore Medical Center now goes by HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast. It is the same hospital on Spencer Highway. Search the current name in plan directories.
Can I get help paying Medicare costs in Pasadena?
Possibly. Extra Help lowers drug costs, and Medicare Savings Programs can pay your Part B premium, if your income and savings fall under the limits. We check what you may qualify for before comparing plans.
Do I need a special plan if I have Medicare and Medicaid?
You do not have to switch, but plans built for people with both often add benefits. We review how each option works with your Medicaid before you decide.
